Fool’s Gold: Trump Phone Not Made In America, Trump Mobile Uses AI To Serve Ads

TL;DR - Trump Phone makes false promises and was detected to be a reskinned T-Mobile phone that’s made in China. Trump Mobile has AI monitoring of its users. All that glitters is not gold.

Enough people requested that I cover this story, so here we go. The Trump empire launched yet another company (they really know how to profit from a Presidency), this time in the mobile space.

Trump Mobile, and the Trump Phone which is coming soon, promises to be designed and built in the United States.

This claim was proven false within hours of the press release. Analyst Max Weinbach on Twitter pointed out that the phone’s specifications and appearance match the T-Mobile REVVL 7 Pro 5G - which is manufactured by Chinese-owned Luxshare.

This makes Trump Phone a re-skinned device, imported from China, and painted gold. Don’t fall for the fool’s gold.

Its currently unfathomable to have a phone completely built in the USA, special components such as OLED displays are only manufactured in China. Plus the US doesn’t build any processors, the closest thing would be Qualcomm’s partnership with Taiwan Semi-Conductor Manufacturing.

The US’ manufacturing arm is close to non-existent, the best one could promise is that the phones are assembled in the US.

Turning our attention to Trump Mobile, it also fails to impress - its re-selling the three major US carriers. But there is one thing that stands out.

In Trump Mobile’s privacy policy, in addition to the many tracking technologies they use, they also use an Artifical Intelligence and Automated Decision making system.

This AI system analyzese your usage patterns and other interactions to predict your interests, which are then used to “provide personalized content and advertising, and enhance user satisfaction.”

Additionally these AI systems gather device information and even location information.

The play here seems like a targetting advertising play. By using the phone, it gets to know who you are, and then Trump Mobile can serve you with targetted ads left and right.

And Trump Mobile’s additional serivces like roadside assistance and telemedicine have little transparency or information - who knows if you’re going to have to pay more?

This feels like an attempt to exploit the President’s die-hard fan base, locking them into a cheap Chinese phone, and gaining advertising revenue streams powered by AI.

When it comes to hyping up and misleading people, its definitely America first.
