I love your idealism and optimism, BUT... Seriously? Start gardening? Hello? Reality check! What are people supposed to eat while the seeds are growing? It takes months to have a harvest. Plus, it's early November in NE Texas. It takes a greenhouse in most of North American to grow food year round. It takes A LOT of like-minded people, land, water, sunshine and/or grow lights, and other resources to start a big enough garden to sustain life, or even to provide supplemental food. Yes, people do go a little crazy when they are hungry.
Hakeem, do you have a garden of sufficient size to sustain yourself and your family? Do you already know how to preserve food for the months when a garden won't grow? Oh, yeah, gardens don't produce all the protein and vitamins necessary to survive long-term.
yup I have a garden, luckily with some things that grow year round. i disagree with the belief that a garden couldn't sustain people long term, and even if it couldn't i have no idea why people would shout this down as if i'm saying this is the ONLY thing you should do, really strange.
Good to know you practice what you preach. I still am pretty sure that a vegetarian diet leaves alot to be desired for more than 90% of people. Even the Dahli Lama has to eat meat sometimes. Lots of studies that show vegans become deficient in several nutrients over time and begin to accumulate chronic diseases. Nothing against community gardens, but they won't save the world and may become battle grounds if SHTF.
Not that strange... I call it pragmatic. I heard all your wonderful other things... just sayin' most people have more immediate needs than would be helped or sustained by starting a garden.
i see your point! i think its important to get involved. what do you suggest people start with?
my friends in PA are actually helping feed their own community with a food stand, they receive food donations and make them available at the stand for free, including fresh grown veggies.
Solid! Strangely enough, my old man owns a small 10 acre farm in PA. But I Can't convince him to even plant a carrot or 1 chicken. Lol. I suppose the good news is that once the property goes to me, that could change. Not that I want to live in PA, but it might be an option out of necessity. So keep in touch fam! 🤙

The best time to plant food was last year. The second best time is today.

IDK. Get a community or backyard cow or goat and some chickens -- at least you'll have immediate protein.
