The coffeehouse I used to frequent had a free public phone mounted on the wall. People made calls, but also received them. It was not unusual to have the phone ring, someone walk over to pick up the phone and then call out, 'Is there a Gary here? Gary?'
So it was a community resource before the days of cell phones that facilitated long hours at the café without any concern (loitering was encouraged there, the opposite of most restauranting establishments). Absolutely an excellent use case for such a phone
OMG thank you for the swype feature on Heliboard! I have been missing it since I switched to the Above phone. I found a keyboard called Thumb-Key that I've been having fun with in the meantime (hello, brain plasticity!). (Also love the repurposed pay phones story — so inspiring!)
