In this clip from our Breaking Out of Tech Addiction webinar, I speak to how moderate use of digital devices (less than 2 hours) is not harmful, but can actually increase cognitive performance!
“We’re dropping Stripe - Changes to Odysee’s Payment System”
“Stripe now wants to know all about our users, they want us to collect all kinds of sensitive information about you, because Stripe doing KYC checks as the money transmitter is not enough. Users should go through a prior round of arbitrary KYC checks first.
That's not the worst offense though. Stripe requests Odysee's incorporation of third party moderation tools to ensure that everything Odysee users post is in alignment with their own policy even if those users aren't even using Stripe for monetization in the first place!
So that's it, we're dropping Stripe.”
“Forcing Odysee to restrict users from using Odysee because they don't align with Stripe’s policies (which are not ours) is where we draw the line. That's nonsensical, and it's also none of your business who we platform.
“What’s next:
We’re developing new monetization tools which provide creators with greater autonomy and lower fees. Switching to another centralized payment processor like Stripe would likely cause similar issues in the future, so we’re fully embracing blockchain technologies for better freedom in transactions. Odysee will also no longer take any cuts of tips/purchases/rentals, nor pass on processing fees to users for memberships. Transaction costs to send/receive will be negligible, which also opens the door for microtransactions - e.g. tipping in the pennies, and lower membership tiers!
Thank you for your awesome work! btw: I was wondering if you'd heard that UPS is demanding that people having a mail box service with them give them our passport info along with driver's license and a bunch of other personal info. I've had my UPS for 15 years and they never asked for all this stuff. i'm sure i gave my driver's license but i am really resisting giving them all my stuff and more now. I have put off doing this and now they are saying i have to do it now after many months of avoiding it. i'm thinking about canceling the whole service but then i wouldn't have this for when i'm out of town... anyhoo, just curious what you make of them wanting my passport! like it doesn't matter any more bc they have everything anyway. so frustrating... and scary. i just want to be free from their surveillance nightmare evil garbage. i've always staying away from "their system"... how can one anymore? my own cell phone number is in their system as well... makes me so mad.
