Another valuable and interesting show. There seems to be a lot of AI being used in YouTube videos too. It does make them somewhat repetitive and I can’t connect with the content. I feel very anxious about where this is heading. I do see some benefits to AI but overall I don’t see it being used to benefit more to take advantage
yeah i find it really weird when people watch the AI slop unironically. its slowly going to take over the internet. we just need to find more intentional and purposeful places we can still have real discussion on the internet. hopefully will have more clarity on this soon!
With the absolutely huge amount of info bombarding us, your speed and brevity of delivery is most appreciated by this one person… and of course your content is welcome too. Thank you Hakeem
i only recommend grapheneos and divestos (which has since been discontinued) but if you want to explore, we outlined the top open-source operating systems here on Above Phone's blog:
Good show! (Small constructive criticism is the background music seems a bit odd and distracting.). AI is concerning, but also I think important to learn about and possibly a useful and perhaps necessary tool of the very near future, and it's already affecting our lives and definitely our privacy!
I heard recently about Apples AI friend Replika. The user has to answer some personal questions about their likes/dislikes and even their love language, which is weird as it seems targeted at children. This data is then available within the configuration settings of the app.
I think Cellebrite have acquired a software company for enhanced visualisation too. It all seems very benign but it’s the capability we didn’t agree to that we should be worried about.
It’s almost impossible to stay analogue in today’s modern world. It’s a shame the BBB bill didn’t include placing 1984 as essential reading on the school curriculum.
Different topic but related to AI and surveillance. Hakeem would you please consider doing a future show on the nightmare of modern cars, privacy and security. The tracking and the plethora of controlling safety features is deeply concerning with horrendous implications. Cars have become technocratic weapons.
I’m loving the messages to avoid using AI (from various people I follow).
I think it’s dangerous and leads to myriad problems.
I am saving up for an Above Phone :)
im glad you are receiving the message :) - and yay!

What's a good open source operating system?

Thank you. Are they easy for the average user to install?
