I’ve just wrapped up a comprehensive Digital ID report that I’ve spent the last two months working on. It’s about 35 pages, and it’s finally out and ready for you to dive into. You can grab it here, and you’ll get the report delivered to your inbox in about 20 to 30 minutes. It’s a hefty piece, so it takes a little time to arrive.
Now, let’s talk about what’s inside. In this segment, I’m breaking down how Europe’s new Digital ID framework—known as eIDAS 2.0—is rolling out. It’s a binding regulation that EU member states have to follow, meaning each country must have its own national ID app by the end of 2026. They’re even releasing an open-source EU Digital Identity Wallet on GitHub, but of course, it still involves relying on big tech attestation.
We’re looking at a future where businesses will be required to accept these IDs by 2027. Some countries like Estonia have had mandatory digital IDs for decades, and others like Denmark are seeing huge adoption rates—though not always happily.
But here’s the part that matters most: none of this is a death sentence for our freedom. The rise of Digital ID doesn’t mean we’re powerless—it means this is our moment to choose differently. Every shift toward a centralized system is also an invitation to strengthen the decentralized ones. Communities are already building parallel tools, private communication networks, local economies, and technologies that don’t rely on surveillance infrastructure.
We’re not here to panic; we’re here to prepare. And preparation is empowering. When you understand what’s coming, you can adapt early, support the builders creating alternatives, and make choices that keep you aligned with autonomy. The future isn’t fixed. It’s shaped by the people who participate. And there’s still time—plenty of it—to create a world where we stay connected, resilient, and free.
